Ruth Krüger was admitted to the Johannesburg Bar in 2023. Her preferred areas of practice include constitutional, environmental, administrative, human rights, public interest and refugee law.

Prior to studying law, Ruth was an environmental scientist. She holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degrees in that area, from Rhodes University. She also obtained a Masters of Science degree in sustainability science from Lund University in Sweden, with distinction. Her Master's thesis led her to conduct research in the DRC, using social science principles to consider the usefulness of a large hydroelectric dam. That research then allowed her to spend a brief period at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, as a visiting researcher. Ruth also worked at the Centre for Environmental Rights on the strength of her environmental science qualifications.

With the idea of linking scientific and legal knowledge, Ruth then studied at the University of the Witwatersrand, and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree with distinction. She spent a year as a research clerk to Justice Majiedt at the Constitutional Court, before coming to the Bar.
