Rusty holds B. Iuris, LLB degrees. He was admitted to the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in 1988. He took Silk in 2005. His preferred area of practice includes constitutional and administrative law, commercial practice, arbitration, education, labour, medical malpractice, municipal (local govt) law, procurement law and traditional (African) law.
Rusty has acted as a Judge in the Mahikeng High Court and North & South Gauteng High Courts. He was the chair of the Black Advocates Forum (BAFO), Advocates for Transformation (AFT) and Johannesburg Bar Council as well as Group Leader of the Constitution Hill Group.
